DIAN FOSSEY'S GORILLAS:

Rwanda’s natural beauty will captivate you. Explore the verdant hills by road and by foot. Trek through lush jungle on volcanic slopes until you reach Dian Fossey’s former base and see the impressive gorillas who still claim this area as their home. Reverently visit her resting place and the memorial to victims of a violent past. Day-01 Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes NP
Murakaza neza mu Rwanda! (Welcome to Rwanda!) At the Kigali International Airport meet your driver-guide. Depending on your arrival time, your driver-guide may suggest a visit of Kigali, which includes the Genocide Memorial centre at Gisozi. Transfer to Kinigi at the foothills of the Volcanoes. The trip will take approximately 2 hours. Hotel accommodation. (L-D)

Day-02 Gorilla Tracking
After breakfast, you will depart for the headquarters of the Park, where your guide will accomplish the necessary formalities for you. You will meet your ranger guide(s) for a briefing about the greatest animal experience ever. Join us on an exciting drive to the slopes of one of the Virunga volcanoes to start your trek.After the trekking, if time allows, lunch at Ruhengeri and in the afternoon an excursion to explore the beautiful lakes in the region (Lake Bulera & Ruhondo). Overnight at Kinigi. Your guide will make the necessary arrangements for the next day. (B-L-D)

Day-03 Hiking to the Dian Fossey grave (Bisoke)
After breakfast, you will report to the headquarters for your excursion to the slopes of the Bisoke volcano and pay a visit to the former Karisoke centre, where the grave of Dian Fossey is located. Fantastic views, lush forested slopes and an exceptional environment. This fantastic hike to the grave will take about 3 hours.After the trek, visit the Iby'Iwacu traditional village (a community based tourism project, where the local community displays the traditional ways of living). On your way to Kigali, several stops will be made to admire the scenery. Rwanda is the country of the thousand hills! Overnight at your hotel. (B-L-D) Karisoke became one of the most successful primate study sites in the world in the 1970s. For the past three decades the mountain gorillas of Karisoke Research Center have been the subject of many studies focusing on their behaviour and ecology. Karisoke still functions as an important base for international research; biologists come and go, some studying the gorillas, and some focusing on other aspects of the environment and its wildlife. Karisoke is still funded by the "Digit" fund, although it has been re-named as "The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund".

Day-04 Kigali visit and Departure
Pick up at your hotel, depending on your departure time and if you missed the opportunity the first day, you will have a Kigali city trip including the visit to the Genocide Memorial centre at Gizozi. Transfer to the Airport for your departure. (B-L) Genocide Memorials: In Rwanda you will find them all over the country. These memorials are to commemorate the victims of the genocide of 1994. The most important Genocide Memorials are those of Kigali (Gisozi) and Murambi (Gikongoro) where the history of the genocide is explained. A visit to the genocide memorial is for most visitors an emotional event.
